Finding a place to stay in Broome proofs to
be a challenge. There are plenty caravan parks, but the council rule says they
cannot accept pets, for certain parts of the year. One park is allowed to take
in dogs, but only for two more days until the season is finished/or starting
depending on how you wish to look at it –but they cannot accommodate the bus.
The overflow park is not yet open, because the we-cannot-accept-dogs-season has
not yet officially begun and now we are a bit stuck.
Very generous Samaritans are helping us out,
who I cannot name. I have sworn secrecy, you see, because they were operating
outside their guidelines to meet our needs. Very much appreciated.
It feels like an oasis arriving in Broome
with its obvious tropical atmosphere. After Jolmer manages to park the bus with
the Samaritans, and we are all set up, we look for a splash zone playground. It
is such a lovely way to chill the children on a hot day.
The next day we make our way to the Post
Office. The Coral Bay whaleshark company is sending a disc with the movie of
our dive to Broome and we hope it has arrived. But no. The mail actually goes
from Coral Bay all the way back to Perth and then up to Broome again –so the
lady from Australia Post explains. We shall wait.
The Aarli is a lovely restaurant that is
hard to find, because it is tucked away behind some palp trees. We have a
farewell dinner, more a celebration, really. Jolmer turned 40, Els will be 70
later in the year and Pieter turns 75. Some milestones worth celebrating. We
are dining outside. The evening temperature is so comfortable it almost feels
soft on your skin. The tribe is behaving well and the food is delicious.
